Texas Tech Expands Sport Psychology Department – Texas Tech Red Raiders – TexasTech.com

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Athletics has announced the expansion of its sport psychology unit within its student-athlete health and wellness department with the hiring of Dr. Dayna Charbonneau, who has joined the staff as Director of Clinical and Sports Psychology.
Charbonneau, who arrives in Lubbock following nearly four years at West Virginia, will work under fellow sports psychologist Dr. Tyler Bradstreet, who has been promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Psychological Health and Performance as part of an expanded role.
“The mental health of our student-athletes will continue to be a top priority for us as an athletics department,” Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “This is an area we believe we can continue to prioritize, and I believe we have two of the country’s best sport psychologists now on staff in Dr. Bradstreet and Dr. Charbonneau.”
Bradstreet and Charbonneau will continue to enhance Texas Tech’s focus on mental wellness as a pivotal aspect of student-athlete healthcare and mental preparation as a competitive advantage.
At West Virginia, Charbonneau was responsible for individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, coach consultation, individual and team mental performance training and wellness programming with each of the Mountaineers’ student-athletes. She served as the liaison between West Virginia Athletics and the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services. During her tenure, she was instrumental in developing mental health best practices for the entire athletics department.
